The Youth Accountability Board Program

The Youth Accountability Board Program is comprised of volunteers working as a team to investigate cases involving low-risk, first-time juvenile offenders.  They work with parents and/or guardians to help youth develop personal responsibility for his/her actions and re-establish a sense of community values. 
Members of the Youth Accountability Board (YAB) Program offer mentorship and formulate a constructive accountability plan may include: Community Service Work, Reflective Writing Assignments, Anger Management Class, Life Skills Class or Counseling Referral. The emphasis is on re-directing the youth and helping them become productive citizens through accountability and guidance. 
The Youth Accountability Board is always seeking new volunteers.  You are encouraged to apply if you have a desire to have a positive impact in your community, have the ability to be objective and are able to communicate effectively with young people.  The Youth Accountability Board meets on a monthly basis to conduct Panel Hearings at various local community sites. The program commitment is approximately 3 to 6 hours per month. 

Requirements for YAB:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Not on parole or probation.
  • Must have a valid California ID or driver’s license.
  • Must pass a background investigation.
  • Must meet the documentation requirements of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
Application Process for YAB:
  • Complete and submit the application.
  • Complete a pre-screening interview
  • Provide valid California ID card or driver license.
  • Complete Live Scan fingerprinting and have photo ID taken by probation.
  • Pass a background investigation.
  • Applicant will be required to attend a mandatory volunteer orientation and training.
